Malta Paralympic Committee launches as Call for Para Swimming Coaches for The Next Gen Project.
About the project
This project focuses on the next generation of Para swimmers by building on the foundations set during Para swimming training camps.
Group training sessions of c. 90 minutes will be held approximately every two weeks on a Sunday morning. The group will be supervised by coaches and is aimed at creating a motivating and supportive community where athletes can learn from one another and progress together.
Para swimmers will be split into 3 groups, according to their level of swimming abilities:
Ripple Rangers (beginners)
Wave Breakers (intermediate)
Tidal Titans (advanced)
Call for coaches - requirements and deliverables
Malta Paralympic Committee requires qualified coaches to participate in the project. Coaches will assist Malta Paralympic Committee with:
Design of Para swimming training programmes according to age group and level of ability / type of impairment.
Delivery of Para swimming training sessions in a group environment.
Ongoing monitoring of progress and communication with stakeholders, including head coaches, athletes and parents or legal guardians.
Participation in project related activities.
Candidates will normally be required to satisfy the following criteria (where applicable):
coaching qualifications in swimming and/or Para swimming.
relevant professional qualification (MQF Level 6 or higher) issued by a reputable institution, such as the University of Malta (or equivalent). Candidates with an MQF Level 8 or higher and specialising in the areas of coaching or sports & physical activity will be preferred.
experience in supporting athletes with physical disabilities, mobility impairments, visual impairments and/or intellectual impairments, whether congenital or otherwise, and whether temporary or permanent.
active citizenship and participation in extra-curricular activities such as volunteering, participation in, or administration of organisations in the areas of sport, education, and/or disability, etc.
As part of your application, please provide us with your:
Professional CV;
Proof of swimming coaching qualifications;
ID card (front and back);
Police conduct certificate (not more than 3 months old);
Data protection consent form; and
Safeguarding form.
Duration and time commitment
Coaches will be required to participate in a minimum of 75% of all scheduled training sessions (unless exceptional circumstances justify lower participation, which at all times must not be lower than 50%).
Training sessions are c. 90 minutes each. Coaches will be required to arrive c. 20 minutes prior to scheduled start time to assist with athlete preparation.
Fees and invoicing
A standard coaching fees rate of €20.00 per hour. Payments will be made by MPC via bank transfer only - requests for cash payments will not be accepted.
