Malta Paralympic Committee participates at the International Paralympic Committee General Assembly 2025

Malta Paralympic Committee (MPC) participated at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) General Assembly 2025, held in Seoul, South Korea, between 24th to 27th September 2025.

The General Assembly is the highest decision-making body within the IPC, with over 190 member countries and international sport organisations gathering to vote on strategic matters regarding the future of the global Paralympic movement, and to elect the IPC Governing Board.

Andrew Parsons was re-elected IPC President for what will be his third consecutive and final term as President, with Leila Marques Ply and John Petersson Ply respectively elected as Vice Presidents of the IPC. Malta is also represented on the IPC Governing Board, following the election of Maltese two-time Paralympian, Vladyslava Kravchenko Ply, who was elected by Paralympians competing at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games to serve in the role of IPC Athletes’ Council chairperson. The new IPC Board will serve until the general assembly that will take place after the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

The IPC General Assembly was preceded by the IPC Para Sport Conference, during which the IPC launched its new Impact Strategy. Detailing how it will focus its efforts on its strategic goal of creating an inclusive world, the IPC highlighted that “Para sport is an extremely powerful tool for driving societal change and advancing disability inclusion. Whether it is the platform of the Paralympic Games or Para sport development programmes, our activities have a monumental impact, challenging stigma, empowering individuals, and building inclusive communities.”

Malta Paralympic Committee was represented by its Secretary General, Dr Julian Bajada. Commenting on the outcome of the event, Dr Bajada remarked that: “We are entering an exciting phase for the global Paralympic movement. The true value and potential of Para sport has not yet been realised and the next four years can be crucial in elevating the movement and championing our fundamental human rights to participate meaningfully in all spheres of life, whether on or off the field of play. Through our participation, Malta reaffirmed its commitment to creating a society in which inclusion meets excellence, and to enhancing opportunities for persons with disabilities.”
