ACCESSERCISE - FITNESS APP FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES LAUNCHED IN MALTA IN COLLABORATION WITH MALTA PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE

Revolutionary fitness app now available in Malta

Malta Paralympic Committee (MPC) is pleased to announce that is has signed a collaboration agreement with Accessercise, the only fitness app dedicated to disability and fitness. The agreement marks 50-days to go to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and makes MPC the first National Paralympic Committee to enter into a collaboration with Accessercise - a milestone that can serve as a catalyst for incentivising and supporting people with disabilities in Malta to get involved in sport and physical activity.

The Accessercise app is built on three key features - (i) a bespoke exercise library, (ii) a directory of gyms and fitness facilities in Malta and overseas (which can be ranked by users for accessibility) and (iii) a social hub, where users can connect with like-minded users for peer-to-peer support. Through the app, you can build custom workouts, set goals and log workout results. It also as an educational tool for coaches and athlete support personnel to better support persons with disabilities by learning to adapt different exercises for different impairments.

Co-founded by Ali Jawad PLY (four-time Paralympian who competed for the UK at the Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in Para Powerlifting, achieving a world record and winning a silver medal at Rio 2016 in the -59kg weight category), the app is revolutionising the way people with disabilities are able to access and engage with sport and fitness. The app is designed by disabled persons, for disabled persons, with the current range of disabilities including single arm/leg amputations, dwarfism, visual impairment, spinal cord paraplegia and spinal cord tetraplegia.

Co-founder and COO Ali Jawad commented that ‘We are delighted that the Maltese National Paralympic Committee has become Accessercise’s first partner in the Paralympic sphere. Their recognition of the app’s value for Para athletes and the wider community underscores our shared commitment to providing optimal support for training and sports. We deeply value these partnerships, as they are foundational in our mission to ensure consistent accessibility and exercise opportunities for disabled individuals.’

Malta Paralympic Committee Secretary General, Dr Julian Bajada, shared the excitement and highlighted how ‘Accessercise is an effective resource for moving people with disabilities from the stage of simply wanting to get involved in sport and fitness, to actually doing it. It answers the fundamental question often asked by individuals with disabilities, their families and their coaches or personal trainers - that is, looking beyond my disability, what kind of physical activity can I do, and how do I get it done?’

Accessercise is now available for download in Malta on Google Play and the App Store - visit https://accessercise.com Malta Paralympic Committee will also be forming a working group of persons with disabilities interested in trying out the app and supporting Accessercise by providing user feedback to continuously enhance the app. Interested individuals should get in touch via email on info@paralympic.mt
